How I work

I draw on my degree in Applied Psychology (specialising in canine‑assisted therapy) to bring evidence‑based, humane methods to every lesson. That scientific background, together with my practical expertise in agility, helps me understand how both dogs and handlers learn, so that your training plan is practical and effective.

Individual, tailored training plans

You and your dog get a personalised programme based on your dog’s individual needs and your own goals and lifestyle (competition ambitions, time available, and your own physical abilities).

Focus on excellent foundations by building understanding first

Success in agility starts with exceptional fundamentals. But boy, there’s a lot of ground to cover:

  • Jumping technique and obstacle skills
  • Focus and arousal management
  • Independence and confidence
  • Connection and communication between dog and handler

…and that’s before we’ve even touched sequencing or handling.

I make sure your dog understands the task we ask them, before adding speed or complexity. That means breaking skills down into layered, progressive exercises so each step is obvious and achievable for your dog. By making each step clear and repeatable we build reliable behaviour under increasing distractions and speed.

Work that doesn’t always look like “agility”

We may spend lessons not touching any actual agility equipment. I encourage growing skills like arousal regulation, confidence building, or strengthening your connection away from agility obstacles wherever possible. These invisible skills, when mastered in easier contexts, will unlock progress later on the field.

Training formats

  • One‑to‑one training — Focused individual sessions with a personalised plan and clear steps to work on between lessons.
  • Small group classes (spring & summer) — Practice sequencing and full‑course skills in a supportive group while still getting individualised feedback.
  • Seminars — Full‑length course challenges or theme‑based workshops focused on specific skills such as weave poles, jumping technique, contact performance, or start lines. For handlers and dogs of all levels.

Puppies welcome!

Puppies are welcome at all ages. I’m cautious about introducing physically demanding exercises to young dogs, but there are many low‑impact skills that are invaluable in building a strong working relationship with your puppy. Through fun, engaging games we can hit the ground running… figuratively at least!

Whether you want to start the right way with a new puppy, troubleshoot an adult dog, or tune up a competition team, I’m happy to help. Send me an email for more info.
